Archos’ lately released Android tablets come with support for UPnP protocol, which means movies, videos and photos located on our computers can be streamed to Archos Internet Tablets for playback. This might work for some guys, but I had failed times before successfully streamed MKV to Archos 70. In the first place the built in UPnP does not work for MKV by default, and you have to install a DivX codec pack so as to help the UPnP recognize MKV files correctly (what I did exactly), then for some reason the MKV files over 2GB do not play at all. I assumed there is a file-size limit of 2GB. I have finally managed to get the UPnP streaming MKV by dividing the MKV into 2 part, each 1.7GB and this time it works. My advice for those who wanna stream MKV to Archos over UPnP: if you do not want to install the MKV fix pack, just down convert MKV to AVI and make sure file size not exceed 2GB. Here’s a workflow for your reference.
Guide of converting MKV to AVI for streaming to Archos 70 via UPnP:
Software you need: Pavtube Video Converter
(Download a free trial of the MKV to Archos Converter from here.)

Step 2. Set video format for streaming video to Archos tablets
To stream videos to Archos tablet, you need to set a compatible format. Pavtube Video Converter provides presets for Archos 5, Archos 7, Archos 605, Archos 705, Archos 704, Archos 504, Archos 604, etc. For stream videos to Archos 70, you may click on the pull down menu of “Format”, and select “Archos 5/7 AVI Video (*.avi)” from Archos tab. This format creates 640*480 SD AVI video of 2000kbps. In case the source MKV be 16:9 HD video, click “Settings” and set video “Size” to “720*405” so that the original aspect ration can be kept.
Step 3. Check the file size of output video.
Find file size information of output video at the left bottom. If the file size is smaller than 2GB, go on with the last step. Otherwise you may click “Settings” to enter profile panel, and cut down the file size by setting a smaller bitrate from the dropdown list of “Bitrate”. Or you can split the video to multiple parts with the “Trim feature” under “Edit” menu.
Step 4. Stream converted MKV videos to Archos tablet over UPnP.
Click "Convert" button to start converting MKV to AVI for playback on Archos. After conversion completes you can click the "Open" button to find the converted files. Now the source videos can be streamed to Archos for entertainment via UPnP.
