“I have a Sony camera that produces HD videos in .MTS format (codec). I can import these videos with iMovies 11 to my MacBook Pro with no problema. I bought an iPad 3 Camera Connection Kit for SD cards but had no success importing HD MTS videos from my camera. I would like to know if there is any video application for the iPad 3 that allows importing videos (with the .MTS format)?”
WAY1: For non MTS format video import to iPad 3.
If you have the same problems as shown above, you can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit to import pics and videos. Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg). Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
WAY2: For MTS format video import to iPad 3.
As we know, iPad 3 supported video formats are limited, it only H.264/MPEG4 video in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats. for sony and Panasonic cameras, they recorded videos are most in .MTS or .M2TS format, before you sync MTS/M2TS to iPad 3, you need to convert them to iPad 3 supported video fromat, like MP4. You can use Pavtube MTS Converter for Mac to convert MTS to iPad 3 on your Mac and then for iPad 3 playback.

3. Click format bar and choose best output format for output. Click and choose "iPad -> iPad 3 Full HD Video H.264 (*.mp4)". You can also choose other format for put as you want.
4. You can click “settings” to adjust the output parameters, such as resolution and bitrate.
5. Edit function is very easy to choose, you can trim, crop, add watermark or adjust effect before converting MTS videos.
6. Click convert button to start converting MTS file to iPad 3 MP4 format.
After conversion, you can transfer converted videos to your iPad 3, and then you can watch MTS video on iPad 3 with MP4 format. You can also follow MKV to iPad 3 on Mac or DVD to iPad 3 on Mac conversion guide to make full use of your videos and iPad 3.
